Wrong Town 03:27
You’re about to watch a show starring me I don’t know what you’re about to hear or see The truth is I have no plan at all There’s a good chance that off this stage I’ll fall My body ain’t quite what it used to be My hair ain’t the color it once was My style icon is Emmylou Harris Mixed with a little Don Was I lie on stage I lie in songs I lay my troubles down Hey stick it out with me kid, I mean what else is there to do In this godforsaken deep fried bacon town? Yeah, you bought the tickets, you paid the cash You got in the car, you moved your ass You brought a friend or an awkward date To something you love that they’re probably gonna hate It’s music, sweet music I’m emo, I’m screamo I’m country and I’m folk Americana if you wanna I’m old-fashioned but I’m woke I’m everything to everyone I’m Jesus and I’m Buddha too Don’t panic, I’m organic I’m too scared to be satanic But mostly I’m just here to sing for you Well, I’ve played a lot of shows across this world But tonight’s the best I’ll ever play I’m handing you a pearl My G string might snap in two My face may turn from red to white to blue But it’s not because I’m dying, hey I’m just patriotic When we all connect like LEGOs Yeah, we all are symbiotic I die on stage, I die in songs I throw my troubles down Hey, stick it out with me kid, I mean what else is there to do In this craft beer makin’, earthquake shakin’ town? Yeah, you bought the tickets you paid the cash You got in the car, you moved your ass You brought a friend or an awkward date To something you love that they’re definitely gonna hate It’s music, sweet music I’m emo, I’m screamo I’m Grateful Dead post stroke Americana if you wanna I’m old-fashioned but I’m broke I’m everything to everyone I’m Jesus and I’m Buddha too Don’t panic, I’m organic I’m too scared to be satanic But mostly I’m just here to sing for you Well, I know what you’re thinkin’, what the hell? This guy just wrote a whole entire song about himself And the truth is I do it all the time Well for me it’s therapeutic And I hope that you don’t mind WelI, I probably owe you money cuz you’re my therapist But I’m kinda like your escort away from all of this I cry on stage, I cry in songs, I try to work it out Hey, stick it out with me kid, I mean what else is there to do in this Hemp clothes makin’ tincture takin’ Sourdough bakin’, late day wakin’ Spare change takin’ traffic makin’ Release the kraken, I must be mistaken I’m in the wrong town

We are all on a conveyor belt In a factory on the wheel of time Yeah we don’t know when our card clocks out It was yesterday we were in our prime Mick-mack, click-clack Don’t even think about lookin’ back Kodak soundtrack I remember when my ma had a heart attack We are all on a conveyor belt In a factory on the wheel of time Yeah we don’t know when our card clocks out It was yesterday and we were in our prime Tic tac, tic-tac-toe Hey I’m still lookin’ for Indian Joe Where the hell did my dad go? Maybe where the river and the rainbow flow Yeah, maybe where the river and the rainbow go Yackety-yack at the top of the tree My love’s got a money back guarantee I’m livin’ now in Tennessee But I still scream BAHOOTENZIE! Let’s go join the jubilee Don’t let the time run out on me My mom and dad have gone to sea We are all on a conveyor belt In a factory on the wheel of time Yeah we don’t know when our card clocks out It was yesterday we were in our prime Seems like yesterday we were in our prime

Can O' Pop 02:53
Honey, let me open up a can o’ pop I’m rusty like an old horseshoe I been workin’ on a engine in an old chop shop I wanna feel the fizzy rhythm with you Had a chance to meet my love in Opelousas But I ended up drunk in Albuquerque Tried to fill her head with a buncha lame excuses I think she knows I wanna do the herky-jerky Honey, let me open up a can o’ pop I’m rusty like an old horseshoe I been workin’ on a engine in an old chop shop I wanna feel the fizzy rhythm with you So I asked her to try to meet me out in Natchitoches But a monster chased me down in Choccolocco Then I jumped and sprained my ankle on a catfish Now she’s left me for some drummer she calls Paco Honey, let me open up a can o’ pop I’m rusty like an old horseshoe I been workin’ on a engine in an old chop shop I wanna feel the fizzy rhythm with you I left my Bordeaux at the chateau Left my chapeau down in Tupelo I lost my left eye from a crossbow And my wallet way up in Gatineau So after sayin’ what the heck I ended up in Quebec I passed out in the rain And ended up in a train From Montana to Savannah Woke up Louisiana Shouted a hosanna And I slipped on a banana Gave my girl a nod And said glory be to God Honey let me open up a can o’ pop I’m rusty like an old horseshoe I been workin’ on a engine in a old chop shop I wanna feel the fizzy rhythm with you So I finally talked her into goin’ to Kickapoo At the motel we did a little research Her father found out and his face turned blue Now we’re getting married over at the Catholic Church Honey let me open up a can o’ pop I’m rusty like an old horseshoe I been workin on a engine in an old chop shop I wanna feel the fizzy rhythm with you I wanna feel the fizzy rhythm with you I wanna feel the fizzy rhythm with you

Frenemy 03:46
She was into Kierkegaard and I was sitting in her yard And we were talking all about a leap of faith She put on some Shostakovich but her humming was so out of pitch Just like a piece of metal on a spinning lathe I told her I’d always be her friend She told me she’d love me ‘til the end Frenemy, enemy You’re a friend to me ‘Til you set me free Don’t ever let me be I told her that I studied Freud But somehow I was unemployed And that’s the reason that I started shooting dope She told me that old Jean-Paul Sartre Was like a piece of abstract art A Marxist at the end of his philosopher’s rope I told her I’d always be her friend She told me she’d love me ‘til the end Frenemy, enemy You’re a friend to me ‘Til you set me free Don’t ever let me be She was prolific just like Sophocles Comedic like Euripides She kept me like a hobbit underneath her bed She danced just like Baryshnikov While holding a kalashnikov She fed my habit to me I was almost dead And I told her I’d always be her friend She told me she’d love me ‘til the end Frenemy, enemy You’re a friend to me ‘Til you set me free Don’t ever let me be

It’s springtime I’m with my cousin We’re goin’ to see some baseball The bees are buzzin I believe you should Grab your best friend Meet us at the ballpark Over by the hotdog stand I’ll be your man We’ll get a suntan Foul ball bring a glove It’s baseball season And I’m in love My cousin’s got a girlfriend Her name’s Mary She’s gonna bring her best friend Her name’s Sherry Got a bottle of wine, it tastes like cherry Our first date, it sure is scary First base It’s strike three The home team’s winning When you hold my hand My brain starts spinning Happy as I can be I’m floating Just like stumbling Onto a Babe Ruth card I’ll be your man We’ll get a suntan Foul ball bring a glove It’s baseball season And I’m in love Man what’s up with that ump? I think that dude is a chump Well, next week I’ll get a couple passes And we’ll bring that umpire some glasses For its root, root, root for the home team If they don’t win it’s the same For it’s one, two, three strikes you’re out at the... Well, it’s springtime I’m with my cousin We’re goin’ to see some baseball The bees are buzzin And it’s a high fly foul ball Info the right field seats Caught by the man from Walla Walla

Back in high school I loved you But I didn’t have the courage to tell you Cuz I was high on Quaaludes And listenin’ to Foreigner We’d hang out at the swap meet And walk around in bare feet The Boone’s Farm wine was so bittersweet My sister taught me how to smoke weed Before she joined Up With People She left me all her rolling papers So I joined Up With People too I smoked so much dope I saw double Saw Santa Claus in my urine bubbles He said you’ve been a bad boy You’re in lotsa trouble Up, up with people You meet ‘em wherever you go Up, up with people They’re the best kinda folks we know I had a brown Dodge Demon Had a Filipino girlfriend too She’d have me over for lumpia Had eight brothers and sisters they were cool I don’t mean to be facetious But we weren’t afraid of diseases We both got saved by Jesus Oh, up, up with people You meet ‘em wherever you go Up, up with people They’re the best kinda folks we know Back in high school I loved you But I didn’t have the courage to tell you Cuz I was high on testosterone And listening to Styx

Oh when my Lord and Savior calls me Oh when my Jesus sets me free Oh, I’ll be standing in the kitchen I hope he saves a seat for me And when my Jesus comes to take me Hey, I’ll be waiting for my fate Hey, I’ll be standing in the kitchen I’ll wash the sins right off my plate

The first time I saw you You were on your couch and you were leanin’ back Maybe late for a plane or late for a train Or maybe a heart attack You had a wild streak in your eyes Man, I loved your guts I knew I’d follow you anywhere No ifs ands or buts And the second time that I saw you I wanted you so bad But I had to get permission from your mother And go upstairs and ask your dad And he had a shotgun sittin’ there Right between his legs He said go out and get me some whisky Some weed and a dozen eggs Let’s stay together Like birds of a feather Well, when I went back to your house again I gave it a real good inspection And I must admit I fell in love With your record collection There wasn’t one dud no Nothin’ you could waste I gotta tell you babe You got spectacular taste It was Christmas time we were walkin’ slow And the snow was startin’ to fall Went back inside under the mistletoe And I kissed you in the hall And the choirs of angels were singing their songs A little bit outta tune So we put on some Wood Brothers And slow danced to the light of the moon Let’s stay together Like birds of a feather Well we might find work washing dishes at a local bar Then I’ll save up some money And buy us a brand new used car Then we’ll get us a house On an organic farm And I’ll get your name tattooed right here In the middle of my arm Well we might run outta cash And join a crew just a digging a ditch But I got a guitar in my hands And my fingers are starting to twitch It can be hard being a singer Finding decent place to play Well there’s bodies littered along the side Of the Folk highway Let’s stay together Like birds of a feather Baby we’re tethered Let’s stay together You can treat this life just like It’s an old board game The kind you keep in the closet you bring out When it starts to rain Dust it off learn to smile Maybe roll the dice Try to be patient try to be kind It ain’t that hard to be nice Let’s stay together Like birds of a feather Baby we’re tethered Let’s stay together

I opened up my messages We haven’t had a chance to talk in a while I thought of going back But going back involves going plenty of miles Miles in my heart, miles in my mind Everywhere I look I’m looking behind Miles in my heart, miles in my mind As if I’m gonna know where I was goin’ this time I’ve been reading books in the middle of the night It’s a new lifestyle I’m always ending up with a candle in my hand On the cool, cool tile Miles in my heart, miles in my mind Everywhere I look I’m looking behind Miles in my heart, miles in my mind As if I’m gonna know where I was goin’ this time I don’t wanna go alone - oh I don’t wanna go alone - oh Forgive me for the words I’ve spoken out of haste I wanna reconcile There’s been a couple years I been busy Lighting matches and burning miles Miles in my heart, miles in my mind Everywhere I look I’m looking behind Miles in my heart, miles in my mind As if I’m gonna know where I was goin’ this time Miles in my heart, miles in my mind Everywhere I look I’m looking behind Miles in my heart, miles in my mind As if I’m gonna know where I was goin’ this time

Where’s the heat when you need it It’s colder than it should be I removed the a/c from my window I wanna sweat you outta me I was floating down my own path Like a drunken butterfly Put me back in my cocoon I wanna sleep it off tonight Why not is what I thought I can always move again Stardust and satellites We’re all made of moving parts And broken hearts And we’re all just floating Where’s a friend when you need one I’m older than I should be Maybe I should’ve stayed in California It’s pretty much its own country I was dreaming down my own path Like a ragged raconteur Put me back in my old cell Where I know I’ll get the cure Why not is what I thought I can always move again Stardust and satellites We’re all made of moving parts And broken hearts And we’re all just floating Take a page from a new book A shot of something pure Take a picture of a memory Chances are it’s blurred

about

Produced by Oliver Wood and Jano Rix of The Wood Brothers.

LIMITED EDITION LP pressed on pink & purple vinyl.

Throughout over three decades in music, Steve Poltz has done it all and more — he co-wrote Jewel’s Hot 100-topping megahit “You Were Meant For Me,” fronted ‘90s underground legends The Rugburns and has built a huge cult following for his solo tours. A gonzo entertainer, storyteller and prolific collaborator (Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, to name just two), Poltz, now in Nashville, enlisted members of The Wood Brothers for STARDUST AND SATELLITES. It’s an album dealing with loss (he’s lost both parent’s in the past two years), simple joys and childhood memories — summer baseball games, a stint he did with Up With People, and more. This could be his best yet!
